  2. Hi Terry

Are you pushing the book out through kindle so it auto updates?

    1. Just raise a kindle upport ticked asking for them to push an update for the book. That is what I did.

  4. Just like Chaitu said, you deserve some rest after marathon writing, just hope not too long because while Court Wizard is interesting in its own right, I think we'll see thebeginning of bad ass Minalan in Shadowmage :)
Thanks for the series, Terry. Cheers for your good health.

  5. Terry.... I'm curious. With the amount of world building that you've done, do you have any plans to go back at some point and release any stories (short or otherwise) regarding historical events? i.e, humanity arriving on Callidore, The Innundation, or maybe even looking at Min's Maternal side of the family which you 've mentioned a few things about.

    1. Nah, they just take longer to change out the cover. It's up now, with a snowflake shield in the upper left corner. Let me know how you like "Checkered Past", too.

    2. Checkered past is just Eeeeeeevil! Lots of teases! (and it puts the context of the interview at the fair in a whole new light.)

    3. Yes!! That is an amazing back story to what we learned under the truth spell interrogation! It looks like things are falling into place for a bit setup for the end of the final arc :).

    4. I am curious on one thing though... Would Hartarian have know in his capacity as censor general or did that information not necessarily get passed on to him? (or is that for a future revelation :) )

      Delete
    5. Someone must be assigned this task of keeping track of prophecies. Since it was being done for 400 years, I guess whoever was previously keeping track of this must have a made a decision to pull Hartarian into this or not. But since we are just being informed of this, I guess we will find out soon.

But my guess is that he was not pulled into this since he got a prophecy himself that said he would cause the order to fall apart and would move on to a bigger role. Since that would mean that he would no longer be around, my thinking is that whoever was in charge would have decided not to pull him in.

    6. Since its almost painfully obvious that the last book in this series is going to be titled "Archmage", I had speculated for a while now that the kingdom would suffer some catastrophe again, in order to necessitate another change in the social order that would see Minalan ascend to that position.

The addition of "forsaken" has been hinted at in numerous places, but there is still a painful lack of detail surrounding them. Besides, didn't hartarian say the key to the return of the forsaken was a ritual involving irionite, the staff of the archmage, and the last spire of perwin? And now its just a dusty old dagger that has been gathering dust in the ducal treasury of merwin since the conquest??
I think the order of the secret tower would have managed to find that out!

Also, after the story I went back and re-read the interrogation scenes at the magic fair..... After the events of Enchanter, I give precisely 0 fucks about isily, but......damn.
Is minalan ever going to try to take "the Family" to task for its completely and utterly MONSTROUS training methods??? Somebody should. They've created a manufacturing plant whose main product is psychologically scarred homicidal pseudo-sociopath assassins. I mean, look how bad Isly went. How much longer before more of her agents start to blow up in her own face?

Honestly, I don't even care if that happens. The family has always been portrayed as a necessary evil in the series. But they officially lost that status with me as soon as Isly finished her story.

      Delete
    7. Umm, good point on the name of the last book. I hadn't thought of that but it sounds very plausible. And I agree with the catastrophe part - I think the Forsaken and/or the beings behind Sea Folk will be involved along with Celestial Mother IMO.

I think a lot has been forgotten or misremembered about the Forsaken. Its possible that everyone has to pool their knowledge to overcome them and this is all probably a foreshadowing of events well in the future :). Again this is just guesswork. Terry can surprise us still :).

As for taking the family to task, I agree with you and I think it's just a matter of time. But I am not sure it is going to be cut and dry though. It will probably be a long process tempred due to his respect of Rard. I also think Min is going to recruit Rardrine (or whatever the princess' name is) as spy master for Alashar. This will seriously undermine the family, IMO. Cant wait to see what happens :).

      Delete
    8. No.

Rardine is the 3rd highest ranking member of the family, and she has no desire to undermine it.

Also, I don't really want her to get any more power than she already has. She is a vicious psychopath, far worse than "mother" or "grandmother".
She isn't the solution. She's the problem

      Delete
    9. The last book's title will, indeed, involve the word "Archmage". But "Archmage" won't be the last book.

I'm loving the speculation. Y'all are going to love what actually happens, I think. Particularly glad you enjoyed "Checkered Past". The issue of prophesy and the Forsaken becomes a big deal, eventually. But I'm going to drag it out and make you suffer through plot and character development, and yea, even the dreaded exposition. And I'm going to do my damndest to keep it surprising and entertaining while we go.

I've been in discussion with Lanse of Bune (yes, there is a real Lanse of Bune) about doing some cool merchandising in time for the holidays. We've got some really cool ideas, nothing elaborate, but I envision some good maps and memorabilia, maybe a few T-shirts. It's going to be fun, and a step toward developing a visual scheme for the world. I wonder what that might lead to . . ?

Keep up the speculation. I won't answer a lot of questions, but that doesn't mean you can't ask.

      Delete
    10. I agree
Lady Arnet I could see maybe making the change if something came along to undermine her faith in the House of Bimin but Rardine is a stone cold spoiled phyco - remember half the training for Isily was done when she was allowed to give her cruel nature free reign

      Delete
    11. @Aaron, you are correct that she is #3 but recall the conversation between Min and her, where she feels that she is being forced aside and into some useless (or such feelings) marriage?

Normally I would have agreed with you but after Enchanter, I noticed that Min is doing some interesting things where enemies (people who oppose him or hate him etc) are concerned. First Gimbal, then his chat with Rardine and then Ganulan. Min might chnage his ways during the dard period introduced in Enchanter or after, but I still think there is a small chance. Unless of course, Terry introduces a new character because right now none of the characters seems to be a match for spy master role. People change and Min seems to be the cause of that a lot. See how Rardine helps him break the house arrest (assuming that it is her that did it). One other way is keep Alashar under the family control too since they are losing control over it.

      Delete
    12. There's a part of me that could see Rardine end up marrying Anguin. In the process of building Alshar back up, if he's seen as a threat - say due to the number of Magi there, the 3rd Commando take up residence etc, I could see that as something the family might push.

      Delete
    13. Yes, there is that possibility too but I thought Anguin might resist but then if he up against a wall and/or Min supports it, maybe he will go for it.

      Delete
    14. I think that it will definitely be proposed at some point.... But I think anguin is smart enough to refuse. He's a smart man, and its pretty easy for anyone outside of the royal court to understand that there is something....off about that woman.(mainly she's a psychopath)

As for lady Arnet? I could see something happening to make her lose her faith in The Family, maybe even in the House of Bimin itself, but she is to old and to entrenched in a vital position as the minister of lands and estates in Wilderhall to abandon everything and go be spymaster for Alshar. If worst comes to worst for her, she'll probably just retire.

As for Alshar's Spymaster? Several possibilities seem promising

a new character Pentandra installs during court wizard,
      Arborn/Kasari spy network
forget the name but, that Kasari offshoot group who were helping Tyndal and Rondal clear out the rat crew

And, let us not forget that soon, we are going to meet a shadowmage so shadowmagic-y that he gets his own book in the series. Maybe he'll be the spymaster?

      Delete
    15. I don't think Rardine would marry Anguin. Remember while marrying a cousin may not be taboo for those of imperial lineage it is among the Narisi.

    3. Go to "Your Account --> Manage Your Content and Devices" and then look at the menu in extremely small font above "Manage Your Content and Devices" towards the extreme right hand side. You should see "Kindle Support" there. Under the cart, since that is easier to point out I guess :).

Then hit the "Contact Us" button in the left hand side menu. Then follow the on screen instructions. Basically select the Kindle (could be just a Kindle app too) and then "Kindle eBooks and Newsstand" and then "Problems downloading content" and then whatever option is most convenient for you. I chose email since I did it late night but my content was updated by morning for me. Hopefully it works as smoothly for you, as it did for me.

  12. Hey terry?

When do we get a story from the point of view of Terlemen. He's probably longest standing named character that has not recieved major characterization and screentime. Even Azar has had more characterization, but Terlemen is a politically, magically powerful badass. I want to hear about his life even more than pentandra's, since we know comparativly little about him next to the titanic importance of pentandra to the series

  13. Suggestions on consolidation feudal structure of Sevendor and other Bontal domains (on basis final political map of Bontal after Epilogue):

    1. Remnants of Sashtali domains –Ridgemarch, Harmas Wood and Peravanal. Peravanal lies on north-western border of Sevendor and become break in consistency of frontier. Maybe in future Min will purchase this domain from Sashtali? After all former Lord of Sashtali is near landless and have many financial obligations. He may need money for live and Peravanal is small and far away from rest his domains. In addition Spellmonger can give him guarantees of independence.
    2. Outside of Sevendor - south-western lands (five – seven domains) and south-eastern lands (three – four domains). I don`t know if all this domains are independent – from colors on the map I think that is mix of independent, ducal and other lords domains. For reason frontier security and prospecting for lost city of Stone Folk some of this domains adjoined to Uwarri Range Interior would be fine addition for Sevendor. Independent domains may become vassals of Min in `wall of gold` way and single ducal domain can be purchased from Crown.
    3. Trestendor, Barony of Sendaria/Barony of Taravanal, and also issue Sire Cei divide loyalty.
    a) Trestendor – I know that Sire Sigalan is very independent, but paper guarantees are a bit weak. Perhaps it would be best if Sigalan become official vassal of Min with some minor title. Maybe knight banneret or baronet?
    b) Barony of Taravanal own two former West Fleria domains, which are separate from main territories of Taravanal and Sendaria by territory of Trestendor. After war Sendaria and Taravanal must replenish its treasuries and organize conquered domains. This require many cash, also Min can purchase this domains for fair price.
    c) In the long view divide loyalty of Sire Cei is problematic for him and asks for troubles for Min and Sevendor. So, Baron of Sevendor can formal negotiate with Baron of Sendaria about release Sire Cei from vassal obligation and return domains Carweddyn and Krol to Sendaria plus financial compensation for Arathanial. Instead of this domains Cei may control domains Kest and Bulmont (eventually two other former West Fleria domains now in Taravanal ownership).
    4. Lone Sevendor domain in middle of Barony of Fleria. This is very awkward situation for security and political reasons, but because that domain was direct granting of land by Crown selling it is inappropriate. In future will be necessity possession corridor through territory Barony of Fleria. Minimum two domains between border of Sevendor and this domain. Mayby ultimatum to Baron of Fleria with demand selling? ;)
    5. After consolidation Min may divide frontier of Sevendor into four territories (North, West, South and East) oversee by noble with honorary title - for example Sevendor Guardian of North (South, etc.) - and feudal rank banneret/baronet. Maybe Sire Lorcus (Baronet of Amel Wood and Sevendor Guardian of West), Sire Sigalan (Baronet of Trestendor and Sevendor Guardian of North), Sire Cei (Baronet of Kest and Sevendor Guardian of East)… Barony Sevendor will be near Sendaria in term of size and with more secure frontier.

    1. P.s. On political map proper Sevendor is off scale. Snowball diameter is circa four miles (two miles radius). In lenght Sevendor on the map equal above four snowball diameters - circa 17 miles. But in previous book Sevendor proper had between six and seven miles...

    2. @Adept - for #4 I think the two domains in question are were owned by Baron Aranthaniel after the conquest of West Fleria. Those are the two domains Min traded for at the end of the sashtalia conflict by giving up most of Rolone.

      Delete
    3. No, I think that this domains (Kest and Bulmont) are straight north from Sevendor proper (basis on the map from Kindle location 12426). Min trade Rolone for these, but remain two Taravanal domains (former West Fleria) are between Ducal Lands (north), Trestendor (west), Sevendor (south) and Barony of Fleria (east) - vide: #3b. But in #4 the point I have tried to make were domains actually in Barony of Fleria (East Fleria) between "old" eastern domains of Sevendor and lone domain in middle that barony (green color on the map?).

      Delete
    4. Nope...your right... Just Brain freeze on my part. Otherwise it really wouldn't have been in 'enemy' territory when min received it in the first place.

      Delete
    5. Other than the fact that Min has repeatedly said he did not want more lands in his demense. The wall of gold was purchased specifically to act as a buffer to Sevendor proper in the event of Sashtallian intervention. After the trade of northern Rolone for parts of West Fleria and with stout allies to the west and south there is little need to further expansion other than pure avarice and greed.

I do not understand how Peravanal, a noted member of the Shashtali Confederation, retained it's independence after the Sendarian Reconquest however. Did I miss something there?

      Delete
    6. Edit. Stout allies to the west and north and natural barriers to the south

  17. After re-reading Enchanter I am left wondering if Minis going to take in all those magical kids that old Funny-Dunny had for lack of a better word 'bred' or is he going to leave them there cuz they're all supposed to be magical and what about the kids whose births were used as magical rituals, did they all die or are some alive but 'different' now? I didn't really think about them the first time thru what with what happened to Min's own unborn child.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the children should be fine. it was mentioned that they were protected from the effects of the birth spell, the example being min's sons not being affected by the snowstone spell or otherworld spell (no blue hair and eyes even at the center of the effect). For what will happen to them in the future, i think we are going to see min start to really build the academies for new wizards, maybe with them being wards of the academy. I do wonder if Min will build a school in sevendor, seems to be the perfect place to raise powerful mages with all that snowstone increasing their talent and letting them have an easier time practice.

      Delete
  18. Regarding Dunselen's children my guess is they will be quietly given to the Kasari at first and then sent to one of the academies later when their talent quickens. It seems like the best way to remove them from becoming inheritance issues for the Barony of Greenflower while still doing right by them.
