he promised the book several times (dont even get started about the donation thing). I didnt read the series but we all wait for the ending to some unfinished series, so I understand why readers are insistent.
There are probably more readers craving the next book in the Spellmonger series that would complain about delays in that series were he to postpone the next Spellmonger book for anything else. I for one would be disappointed were that to occur.
I am also very disappointed in the lack of progress in the final book in the Space Viking/Tanith trilogy. Since he left me hanging I don't even bother to look at his other books.
He will get back to it, but now he seems to be having fun with the Spellmonger. I hate when authors finish a story where obviously their mind/heart/emotion isn't in it.

Thurmaturge was and excellent book. Vanador surely seems like a magical place. I am anxious to see what Minalin will do, now that the deck is truly stacked against him?
Terry, I really love your series, but Thurmaturge is a mess. There are grammar mistakes and typos throughout the book in addition to repetitive sections where it seems you had different ideas on where you wanted to introduce someone or something and then kept them all. It really felt like I was reading the editor draft rather than the final product.
Didnt read the early releases of the earlier books, did you? The book has no big issues, you understood everything fine... I could name you a few books that would make you cry (I had to anyway...)
I am now on the 4th book in the Spellmonger series. I love the books! In Knights Magi, I enjoy the way he teaches boys how to be men and how to understand women. Most men don't know these truths. I agree with Taldren that there are a LOT of errors; which is annoying. I hope he finds a good editor, because the ones I've read so far seem to be unedited. I also hope Terry keeps cranking this series out! Did he say there are 10 more to go in the already 11 book series!? I sure hope so! Thanks for sharing your fantasy world Terry!

When will the necromancer audiobook be released. I feel so duped when I started the series. I thought it was a 10 book series and I would get a complete ending. What's up with all these authors taking YEARS for their conclusions? From the Kingkiller chronicles, to stormlight archives, to game of thrones, and now this. From what I understand, this is a 30 book series??? Good lord, might not even finish in my lifetime.
Yeah, how dare work take time to do! Everything should be done in self-contained time bubbles where the entirety of an author's work is completed within so that the entire thing can be released all at once! How dare they do things in a sane and realistic manner!

I just got into this series three weeks ago, and I’m completely hooked. I enjoy the subtle nods to classic fantasy that manage to avoid a completely derivative feel. Minalan has just enough flaws, just enough power, and an abundance of likability, all tempered with a good natured ego. I’ve fallen completely in love with Alya, and am nervously looking forward to see her transform into whatever celestial destiny Terry has in store for her. Oh, and as a former Boy Scout, I love how their remnant is hiding in plain sight on Callidore. Well done, Terry. Well done.

Hawkmaiden has just been released on audiobook. Terry is working on a re-write for Necromancer, working on book 12 , the next cadet novel, and a few other projects. Plus building a house atm... I wouldn't expect to see Book 12 until February / March at the very earliest.
Nah, no insider info here, I'm as in the dark as others asking the same question over n over. My time line is based off of a historical time line. I'm really sad to hear that the one book a year sounds like the new norm instead of a one off.

Yes but thats for authors who release the Audible books as their printed books come out. Terry only started releasing his books as audio books once he was already on like book 13 or so (Including the novellas). This means that audible had to "catch up first" which they are still doing. Also remember that each book is much longer than most other novels and it takeslonger to record them.
I did not know this. Audible has a habit of picking up an entire series from somewhere and adding it to the catalogue all at the same time so I dont trust release dates. But I see what youre saying. If they only decided recently to make the audiobooks, like in the last few years, then it would take several years to make 9 audiobooks with the same reader. This should really be stated on an author's website somewhere.

This alone is why I won't read those books. To see the same happen here is disheartening. Finding an author of this caliber is rare. Not being able to see his complete vision, maddening. stop kidding yourself, the coronavirus came up at the start of this year, thats 8 months after the last post, the first case in the US was in febary and the quarantine started in march (over 10 months after the last post). I understand that Terry moved, I understand that authors need inspiration and thats hard to come by staying at home... but nothing over 13 months?

It really felt like I was reading the editor draft rather than the final product.
Didnt read the early releases of the earlier books, did you? The book has no big issues, you understood everything fine... I could name you a few books that would make you cry (I had to anyway...)
DeleteI am now on the 4th book in the Spellmonger series. I love the books! In Knights Magi, I enjoy the way he teaches boys how to be men and how to understand women. Most men don't know these truths. I agree with Taldren that there are a LOT of errors; which is annoying. I hope he finds a good editor, because the ones I've read so far seem to be unedited. I also hope Terry keeps cranking this series out! Did he say there are 10 more to go in the already 11 book series!? I sure hope so! Thanks for sharing your fantasy world Terry!

Minalan has just enough flaws, just enough power, and an abundance of likability, all tempered with a good natured ego. I’ve fallen completely in love with Alya, and am nervously looking forward to see her transform into whatever celestial destiny Terry has in store for her. ReplyDeleteYes but thats for authors who release the Audible books as their printed books come out. Terry only started releasing his books as audio books once he was already on like book 13 or so (Including the novellas). This means that audible had to "catch up first" which they are still doing. Also remember that each book is much longer than most other novels and it takeslonger to record them.
ReplyDeleteI did not know this. Audible has a habit of picking up an entire series from somewhere and adding it to the catalogue all at the same time so I dont trust release dates. But I see what youre saying. If they only decided recently to make the audiobooks, like in the last few years, then it would take several years to make 9 audiobooks with the same reader. This should really be stated on an author's website somewhere.

DeleteA victim of his own success? Too distracted by peripherals to focus? I have seen notes in this blog mentioning Martin n his inability to continue his series. This alone is why I won't read those books. To see the same happen here is disheartening. Finding an author of this caliber is rare. Not being able to see his complete vision, maddening. Guess it's time to look elsewhere.

Mentioned that he was busy packing to move into a new house but should back in "regular contact" in March once he's settled into his new house.
No idea if he'll keep this site posted though. Best to check the Facebook instead (link at the top).
Now some good news is that on that same post, he has said that he gave the first third of Arcanist to his editor. That should be the next book in the Spellmonger series, so in other words he's a third of the way through writing the 12th book.

DeleteAfter waiting over a year, Book 12 of the Spellmonger Series, Arcanist, is now up for pre-order for an October 1st release date! I know waiting that long for the next book in the series is tough, but I promise that I'll get the next one out in a shorter period -- I was moving into my new house this last year, and it ate up a lot of time. Of course, since George R.R. Martin published the last book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, in 2011, I've published at least nine or ten books related to the Spellmonger Series. Just sayin'.
This is how you do it, George: you sit your ass down in a chair in front of a screen and you type until your fingers bleed. Then you do it again the next day. When you get stuck, you make some shit up. You bite the head off of the Persons from Porlock who might interrupt you, and you just. Keep. Writing.
All that said, I'm pretty happy with Arcanist, although I'll admit it is neither the best nor the worst book in the series. I'd also like to thank my editor, Emily Burch Harris, for her hard work and dedication to getting this book properly edited and ready for publication. This is the first of the Spellmonger novels that I've submitted to Podium before Kindle, so the results should be interesting. But I assure you the audiobook release of Arcanist will be soon. Watch this space for an explicit announcement about that date.
I'll also be making myself available for interviews and such until the release . . . and I encourage you to consider purchasing The Road to Sevendor audiobook anthology, if you haven't done so already.
