High Mage now outselling Game of Thrones . . .

Well, in one small category: Sword and Sorcery.  And only four or five of his books.  I still have one ahead of me.  Still, anytime you can out-sell the juggernaut of fantasy, you should take that bow.

Also, despite my wife's better judgment, I've accidentally written three chapters of Hawkmaiden.  Success is going to my head.

Thank you all.

  1. Congrats! I, for one, enjoy your books a lot more than Mr. Martin's.

    1. Terry that fact that you consistently release books that are high quality puts you up with the best.

I hate when you have to wait 3/4 of a decade before a a new book is released as is martins case.

I personally lose interest if the next book isn't released after 18 months.

Congrats on topping the Ice and fire Juggernaut.

  2. Nope it's the same thing! Now, fully over three years from the last published Space Viking-Tanith story line. No hint ever given of a next installment or stunning conclusion. Many times on this blog I've asked "Why and What's up?" Please consider that even John and Dietmar have published, revised, and re-released an updated, longer version of the related H. Beam Piper story line Cosmic Computer-The Merlin Gambit. I guess that this is what happens to the 10% Mancour fan base. Even though we have bundles of moldy American money to spend on a story in which we are interested. Maybe if I annoy you enough you'll finish the story and dedicate it to good old Otto1WV. LOL

    1. Consider me annoyed! I was working on Trask's Odyssey today, as a matter of fact.. I can't promise an exact release date, but I'm pushing for March. We'll see what the gods can work out. I'm pretty enthusiastic about it, still, and the down-time has seen the story develop a little more in my head, too.

Thanks for paying attention - I'm hoping to improve the ratio of my SV fans in the next year. And ya'll don't even generally know about my pseudonymous work. It's amazing I sleep.

    2. FAN tastic news and much appreciated. Carry on.

  3. And you finish them in half the time that he does with better quality so I think you should be at the top.

  4. It was great! Especially Dara fighting the Dragon. The ending is....well, who knows what will happen. Better get the next one out...I don't like limbo here.

  5. um (wanting to buy) Magelord short-story for Christmas Special just not hawkmaid, she's 14, needs a couple years to grow to be good, lets hear about the stone singer building Castle White/Snow Mountain/Ice Fortress I want to know about the planning to get 200k-300k people inside the mountain to repell 1-1.5 million and not telling any one and all the plumbing problems and air filter enchants needed not to mention water (WTB) sea mages at least for cistern/lake-in-the-sky/lake on top of White Mountain Plateau w/e I want to know about the plans to build this thing that will make the capital look like a joke

    1. Stonesinger is finished, and will probably be released within the next week or so. Similarly Ugliest Maid In Castal is ALMOST finished, as well as a couple of short-shorts.

A note on Sevendor Castle: it's going to take seven years to complete. That's actually not that long, in terms of castle construction, but it will be awhile before the place is ready for habitation.

That doesn't mean that construction won't be a factor in the plot. On the contrary, as I've hinted in High Mage building a castle out of a mountain is a little intimidating to your neighbors. And your king.

    2. Oh, before I forget (and I'll do a separate post when the time comes to remind everyone of this) Hawkmaiden is targeted at a YA audience, it's short, and yeah, some interesting stuff goes on in a young girl's life. The story actually starts out before Magelord and doesn't cover much, plot wise, that you don't already know. You can totally skip this if you are bored by such things.

But I needed a new entry-point for the Spellmonger universe, and I wanted a novel my daughter could brag about and get her friends to read without all the sexually explicit stuff. This book fits that bill, and should introduce a new level of detail to the universe.

Now I understand that's not everyone's cup of wine, but in terms of world-building and expanding the context of the story this is a good move. Nor will it drag the main plot down. Dara won't become truly important to the plot until after she helps slay the dragon, but her time leading up to that reveals her in a lot more depth. It also introduces some elements of local politics in Sevendor you might not be aware of.

Just thought I'd give you a heads-up. It's a kids book, but one an adult can (hopefully) enjoy reading. The next major novel in the main plotline will be (I believe) Journeymage, which covers the Great Kasari Migration from the Wilderlands (with Minalan's considerable assistance). Plenty of blood and magic in that one, I promise.

    3. I know this story isn't written to requests, but can i just say I think Olmeg is an awesome character and I'd love to see a short story featuring him. A great unsung hero of Seven for!

    4. Hmmm autocorrect doesn't like "Sevendor" apparently...

    5. Welcome to my world. My autocorrect committed seppuku about halfway through Warmage.

And Olmeg DOES rock. Expect to see at least one short featuring him in the next year.

  6. I, sir, am quivering in anticipation! You've made my week! Merry Christmas!

  7. ooh, i'm with Robert, I'm all a quiver too! I love the regular novelletes & extra installments. There's something really facinating about the minutiae of watching Sevendor develop, from the farming & building projects to the relationships with the local knights, serfs & general peasantry. Can' wait to see what you've got up your sleeve next

  8. I'm curious to see when the Iron Folk enter the story as in when they arrive in Sevendor. Also with Min changing the stone around the castle and now what I would guess some precious gems what happened to the metal that could be found with in the mountain?
