Just finished the rough draft of High Mage
. . . seconds ago. It's big. Over 175,000 words, 35 chapters, plus prologue and epilogue. Intrigue. Romance. Adventure. Blood. Gore. Dragons. Giant puppy dogs. Romance. Did I say romance? I guess I did. It's been a long day.
Time to start drinking. More than half of the book is already back from the editor, so I can start the rewrite as soon as my eventual hangover abates. It's possible this book will be out within a week.
Fingers crossed.
Now for that drink.

Nice, Friday would be great if you could swing it.
ReplyDeletehuzzah!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Looking forward to this immensely.
ReplyDeleteIm hoping that all of us that buy the Spellmonger series books is enough so Terry only has to write Spellmonger books rather than other series. That way we get more Spellmonger books
ReplyDeleteHeh, Steve, the fans of his other series might not agree. But more Spellmonger = good in my book!
ReplyDeleteI know but one can hope :)
DeleteCant wait. Need now!! Waitwait. Time to reread the others in prep.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteBTW. If you are looking for something to read, while we wait on Terry, you might want to try "The Shadow of what was Lost" by James Islington. Very Jordan / Sanderson esque
I'm a fan of different genres. I'm reading Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus series [Urban Fantasy] nd the Evermoreseries by James Maxell. Also N.E. Conneely's series [Urband Fantasy] all Good Reads in my opinion.
DeleteBeen reading PS Powers and Adrian's Undead Diary.
DeleteI would recommend "Call of the Wolf" by J. Langland and "Demons of Astlan".
DeleteBoth of these books were of equal quality as Spellmonger series.
Thanks for the recommendation. I just finished Demons of Astlan and really enjoyed it.
DeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteIf you can manage it, pleeeeeeeeeeease release the book over the weekend, I hate waiting through school knowing a good book is waiting for me at home.
ReplyDeleteAny word? Happen to have a closer idea of what date/hour/minute/second it might become available? I'm truly stoked!
ReplyDeleteBad news: it won't be up by this weekend. My editor and proofreader are doing an admirable job, but there are only so many hours in the day. The revised plan is to have it up by Oct. 1. I really am pounding away at it, but it is a grind.
DeleteGood news: My editor says it's her favorite one so far.
Back to the mines . . .
Thank you for the update! I can now sleep better knowing I'm not missing it by closing my eyes lol. Have a great weekend!
DeleteCan't wait!!!
ReplyDelete/sigh. Another week of furiously checking your blog and amazon page so I get this book the instant it's out. I wish I had patience.
ReplyDeleteYou think YOU wish you had patience? I can't wait to get it out to y'all.
DeleteMore than a third through the re-write.
Giant puppy dogs? Really? Can I have two?
ReplyDeleteHey Terry.
ReplyDeleteI'm a great fan and lately I've been rereading your Firefly Fanfic. Unfortunately Firefans seems to have scrambled the formatting a little (I'm still slogging through Kaylee;s Lament at the moment) and I was wondering if you had the story saved on any other archive or if I could ask for a pdf of the books if you have such a thing?
Its a crying shame the story has become garbled its arguably the best action/adventure Firefly fanfic around
/refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh /refresh Doh doh doh doh!
ReplyDelete*twitch* So hard to wait!
What are you at now, a million and a half words in this series? Have you thought about bundling the whole thing up as one Ginormous ebook? It might get your name out there and grow your following a bit.
ReplyDeleteIt's on the List. The first six books (and anthologies) will eventually be published as The Spellmonger Ascendant. But I have to get through High Mage, first.
DeleteJust opened the rewrite on Ch. 30 . . .
Need. Need. Need. Feed our addiction and we shall feed your wallet!!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. haha.
DeleteI am listening to the final countdown in anticipation. No pressure.
can I have this now please?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read this book. I've been chomping at the bit for ages to read it.
ReplyDeleteExcited :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, and this is just my opinion, but your books are way too cheap! I would happily pay 7.99 for a new book like High Mage. If you keep your pricing low, maybe you can post your paypal info somewhere so I could make a donation!
ReplyDeleteSo noted. But I do like to keep my stuff affordable. After I get an HBO deal I can charge what Martin does, but then he has a publisher to support.
DeleteLol less blogging more editing go live already we are dieing here
DeleteDamn straight my friend! The earlier books I can see charging less, but now I'm a happy fish on the hook. I know you are working hard on finishing the book, but know we are also working hard sitting still waiting for it! :)
ReplyDeletewhat time is it over there now? how long does it take for the book to go live?
ReplyDeleteIs Highmage still coming out today?
ReplyDeleteNot quite. I'm nearly ready, though. Probably tomorrow, Friday at the latest, I think. Barring any further interruptions to my schedule. Believe me, I'm cranking on it.
DeleteThanks for the reply Terry! Really looking forward to this book!
ReplyDeleteyea thanks mate saves me checking every few hours lol
ReplyDeleteEvery few hours? Hell, I've been checking about twice a minute!
DeleteDamn! Oh well, bring on the suspense!
Please, don't start charging paperback/hardback prices for an ebook. I've already lost three authors to that, and I'd rather not lose Min's story on top of them. I just can't justify the cost to myself when looking at the expense between paperback/hardback and an ebook.
ReplyDeleteRemember to post the link for the amazon page too. Just found the new book by Vaughn Heppner out and found out the publish date was 4 days ago. Sucks when I'm searching everyday for stuff and Amazon is just so slow to make it to authors page's and searchable. Looking forward to reading yours this weekend!
ReplyDeleteJust finished the rewrite, will start the final Master after I put the kids down. Then I have to do the shitty cover and the blurb. And. . . that's about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy about this one. My editor, Emily, liked it better than the others, if that's any indication.
Personally, as I reflect after a double Irish whiskey, It is a good book. It brings to a close the first part of the series. To give you some idea, the next part of the series includes about thirteen books/novellas. This isn't the beginning of the end, this is the end of the beginning, and all that stuff.
There's a reason I don't blog a lot. I'd rather be writing, and the Spellmonger series promises a long future, with a definite end-point. That's going to require a lot o words on paper, and I'm looking forward to the challenge.
High Mage concludes Minalan's rise to power. He's the Man, and he has to deal with the repercussions of that position. That's not a little thing, as he discovers. The Man he is at the end of the book is a much different man than he is at the beginning, and the repercussions from the events of High Mage will echo for a good . . . call it five, six yeas of Callidore time. At the end of the book we've left the first Goblin War, and begin the first Shadow War. And it promises to be a gruesome contest, where the weapon of choice is not lance or dragon, but poison, betrayal, and rat tails.
My goal is to publish at least 6 decent-length novellas/novels/anthologies next year (2015) starting with Hawkmaiden.
But before then I need to finish the short stories Stonesinger and The Ugliest Maid In Castal, and include it with the already-extant novella, The Spellmonger's Honeymoon.
It has not escaped my knowledge that the only two writers I will drop everything for and read their new releases, Stephen Brust and George Martin, are releasing stuff this month (I believe). I hope to run a respectable third. To that end, I'll be keeping my pricepoint relatively low for now. We'll see what it will be, but I want the first 6-7 books of the series to be an approachable, easy to get into series. I'm even considering having it translated to Hindi.
Kids are screaming for dinner. More later.
Now you got me kind of scared to even read the darn thing. I really like Min as he is. He is Kind, lovable, loyal, powerful, intelligent, and many more awesome things. I'd hate to see him ruined, as we all are I guess. I'm really scared that you like those two authors now. If you like that stuff, I'm not sure i'm in safe company anymore. I loved Brust for the first few books, then he shat all over his characters more and more. I had to stop reading the series when i felt nothing redeeming anymore. I can't even dive into the shit show that is Martin. I have no idea how he is so damn popular lol. I've re-read your series a few times, and the more I do...the more tiny hints of an awful outcome for my hero, Min. I do hope I'm in safe hands.
DeleteThanks Terry! I am eagerly waiting to get hold of the book after all these updates. I am not sure if you noticed the page view counter but I have contributed heavily to it :).
DeleteCan you share your future plans in detail with respect to Spellmonger series? Based on your comment, it looks like you have it planned out pretty well. I am not looking for release dates but for information on what the major novels in this series would be like. I am also not looking for spoilers :).
BTW, am I reading your comment right in that there would be 13 books/novellas in addition to whatever you have published so far? That is pretty long series ... or was that a total count for the series??
Of course I understand that your plans can be fluid - just interested in your current plans and what books/novellas would be coming out and what they could be dealing with is what I am curious about. That is if you can share any further information. Thanks again for all the hard work!!
DeleteAHH NO! No spoilers!
