Terry Mancour will be appearing at Heroes comic con in Charlotte this weekend!
I will have a limited number of signed copies of Hawkmaiden and Spellmonger available for sale (this is the last bit of the old cover, before we switch over to the new), as well as a couple of other goodies. If you're a hardcore fan, stop by and see me and chat. I'll be in the booth with my art director, Lance Sawyers ("Lanse of Bune") and other good folk. I might even have a few goodies to give away to superfans . . . Look for the banner with the Dead God's face and let me know what you think of the prototype t-shirts. I will be ducking out early on Sunday, Father's Day, to spend some time with my young-uns, but I should be there all day Friday and Saturday. Hope to see you there!

ReplyDeleteEnjoy yourself! I'd love to go but unfortunately haven't talked any one to travel that distance because i love your writing. With spelling erstwhile yule you gave a lot of information that was hinted at. New villain in future formless foe. Min knows how to contact Ameras somewhere in his brain cells. Does he just not recall? More rebels hidden away as Lily was. The forsaken, the seed pod group. Argh. Enjoy father's day.
DeleteThe head you've pictured is much more decomposed than I imagined it. I thought it was fairly fresh when it was sealed in resin at which point it would not have rotted further
ReplyDeleteMost of the exterior flesh is decomposed away, but the brain and brainstem are intact. There are still some shreds of flesh in there. Promise.
ReplyDeleteI like it its good and creepy. I expected a gurvani skull to look less like a human one.
ReplyDeleteIt there a picture somewhere of what an ordinary gurvani looks like?
I picture them kind of "werewolf-esk". I believe they've been described as being similar to the fell hounds they ride and having kind of a wolfish muzzle. That along with the black fur presents a similar image as a werewolf...but shorter...a baby werewolf...
DeleteAlways pictured them as tall Ewoks with a bit of a muzzle myself.
DeleteI can't help but think of little green dudes simply because they are called goblins, despite knowing they aren't D&D goblins...
DeleteI think the muzzles were described as piggish somewhere too.
DeleteI've always pictured an Alf doll with black fur but with a muzzle that protruded less.
Kind of like this image

iv got to throw my hat into the werewolf faced goblins!

ReplyDeleteWhere? Where are we going??
ReplyDeleteSouthern Alshar.. To kill some Alka Alon and more Rats. And maybe a goblin or two.

ReplyDeleteI take this for artistic freedom, cause a head thats been on a spike for a few days does NOT look like that (and the brain gets damaged first, brain damage is the main issue in revival attempts...)
ReplyDeletelooks anyways great ^-
Lance wants to touch it up a bit before we do the next iteration. I'll pass along your comments.
DeleteAnyone else ever wonder if a mage with a rather weak talent like Sir Festaran (who can only do a few cantrips, magesight and a weak magelight aside from his strange estimation talent) was given a witchstone, would he became a decent mage?
ReplyDeleteOr how it would improve the ability of a sport like Cei?
:P These thoughts always run in the back of my mind as I'm reading through the books
I think it might expand on the power of their abilities but I don't think it would necessarily grant them new abilities. The way I understand it a witchstone is like an amplification device in some ways. You feed it a little manner and draw far more out.
DeleteAt most it might grant Cei or Fes access to abilities that are so underdeveloped that they could not normally use them.
As Cei is a sport I don't imagine that it would affect him much except make his one ability more powerful.. But Fes seems to be a mage with very little power rather than just a sport, so wondering if he had a witchstone if he could be taught more magic.
DeleteIt would be hit or miss I believe. Honestly I believe it could grant them new abilities but it would tie directly to their current ones. For instance Cei might be able to actively control the strength of his surges. He might be able to use the with just a wave of the hand or even a kick of his feet. He might be able to use it to send his weapons propelling at super force and even reverse the force to pull his weapon or people toward him.
DeleteIt would just depend on what Terry thinks it might do. It could be interesting to explore though.
I dont think any sport can use ironite, you must have the ability to connect with ironite in order to use it (remember that mages die when the ironite they are connected to is distroyed, thats gotta be a deep connection)
DeleteSir Festaran isnt explained so far, mages can also be sports (Runderal) and to say anything else would be guessing (I suppose Festaran is on the level of a weak footwizard (if even that))
I have NO idea how to do this, but I have always picture something resembling pupils as staring out
ReplyDeletepupils of never sleeping undying hatred! (Sauron has the same issue, the eyes hurt and are rather dry when you were unable to blink for a few centuries...)
ReplyDeletePerhaps the eyes were captured by the solid amber before being ruptured...so it would just be a semitransparent liquid swishing around in the amber and eye sockets of the skull. The pupils would just be a shadow of the eye socksts.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the brain was captured in amber as the sap could have been forced into all openings of the skull to preserve as much of him as possible...so the pupils would just be a dark shadow inside of liquid in the eye sockets with a hint of amber behind the eye holes in the skull...just a thought.
Terry - Any updates on publication schedules??
ReplyDeleteSeptember. Maybe.
DeleteEnd of July for Magelord audiobook
DeleteHonestly I was expecting the skull to have tusks or something to make it stand out as non-human a bit it still looks quite standard for being the remains of a girvani (goblin)
ReplyDeleteSo is the Kingdom going to finally fall apart and the war between goblins and humans gonna resume now? :P
ReplyDeleteThe next book has the cold war heating up! They are going to raid the necromancers lair (hello, the book name is Necromancer)
ReplyDeleteThe true awakening of the Celestral Mother is problably still a few books away...
Yes... but I was thinking about the prophecy in that short story about the forming of the Order of Nablus... That the Grandmaster will submit to the Spellmonger and betray the Duke (of Merwyn).. Also mentioned something about the kingdom falling apart and the west being in ruins... and mentioned the ascendance of the Archmage. :P
DeletePlus, this is book 10... the last of the first "episode" of the series.. I expect the political landscape to drastically alter in the book as well as the defeat of Korbal.. Maybe even Shereul..
DeleteThe Grandmaster also has a knife that is supposed to be able to free the Forsaken, so the story could be moving past the gurvani war into an entirely different enemy forming..
Just read it, sounds like they need the forsaken, the west is already in ruins and the story said only that the duke is going to be betrayed (not that the grandmaster does it)
DeleteAnyways, this makes the censorate bigger pricks then ever (they knew all along that the darkness was coming and they did NOTHING to change it (bet the **** imprisoned seers and tortured them for information too))
It also states that the Grandmaster is going to submit to the Spellmonger, which implies that he is the one that is going to betray the duke.
DeleteI suppose you got a point...
DeleteWhat shortstory was that? I dont remember this prophecy at all? (been years since i read them, the grown of Sevendor keeps me rereading the main books)
ReplyDeleteI would be really suprised if the kingdom falls this early but the enshadowed got that name for a reason...
The forsaken are clearly beings like the christian god and comic caracters so the grandmaster could set them free and turn to the Spellmonger for help. Your prophecy is likely tied to this.
The first episode of the series is fantasy, Terry clearly stated that the coming books will have far more since fiction elements (the SF element has already been strongly hinted)
Lastly the Necromancer could be defeted in this book (seems to early to me but the books are rather long) but Seoul is THE enemy, to kill him suddenly after he didnt play an active role for years would be really bad writing!
Two ideas just wont leave my head: the celestral mother planed to come back with the snowflake (this is unlikely but interesting) and the spellmonger is going to become a god (he is already legendary to his people, they dont have any real god for/of magic and he sybolizes magic in sevice of the people. Now remember the gods already said clearly that they were normal humans a long time ago (i suppose they became manifestations of the part of human subconsiousness because they represent that part and the Spellmonger has got to be next)
The short story is called "Checkered Past"... Its at the end of Enchanter, after all the enchantment definitions..
DeleteAnd I do remember hints about gods having been humans once and have thought that the Spellmonger may eventually join them.. But he has to become the Archmage before that happens.. Its been hinted at far too much for it to be long for him to that take title.. probably after the kingdom falls apart (and Castabriel is destroyed along with most of the Royal Family, perhaps)
They will have some science fiction elements, but it will still mostly be fantasy.. I'm sure it'll just be Minalan tinkering around a lot more with his tekka collection and gathering more.

DeleteI think to introduce SF this late in the series is interesting but dangerous. We all started to read this series because we enjoy fantasy storys and Terry may lose a few readers if things change to fast (to SF), but is going to be important. Several religious orders and (guessed) the valley people guard the last pieces of technology (Herus made a big effort to bring this to Minalans attention)
DeleteMy Kindle never updated from the beta release of enchanter, guess thats why I didnt get the shortstory
ReplyDeletejust took a look at amazon and found out that over 50 books on my kindle had updates
Deletemage lord is up on audible for perorder
ReplyDeleteNice. New cover is interesting although I expected to see a white keep or at least a mage light. Looks more like this is what the keep was like on first viewing.
ReplyDeleteUpdate!
