I'm teasing you to death . . . here's the cover blurb for Enchanter.
I'd say "Spoiler Alert", but I don't think that's fair to do with cover blurbs. They function to give you some hint about the plot, which has been the subject of a tremendous amount of speculation lately. I'm almost reluctant to show y'all this, simply because it will end the discussion about what it might be about, but the fact is that I'm at that point in the process where it's time to release the draft of the cover blurb.
Before we get to that, however, a note about the genre known as Epic Fantasy.
As most of you are familiar with the great examples of the genre, as am I, you might be growing impatient for the great battle between Sheruel and the Spellmonger. That is by design. The purpose of Epic Fantasy isn't to portray an action movie, it's to establish the epic (and episodic) nature of story development. The plots for good Epic Fantasy should not resolve themselves quickly or easily (or Tolkien would have had Frodo and Sam ride the Eagles to Oroduin over the heads of a million orcs in the Fellowship, and ended the story there) and they should be as complex and as sophisticated as real life, in my opinion. One of my goals in writing this series is to explore the long-term, gradual transformation of the young punk Minalan into the sage, wise, and powerful Spellmonger.
This will not be a quick process.
Part of that is because I like long stories that explore all the nooks and crannies of the world. Part of this is because I think it's fascinating to watch a character grow and evolve, subject to the same sorts of issues and problems that most people have. And part of it is because the Kindle format encourages such episodic, long plotted narratives to keep you guys happy and me paying my mortgage.
The downside of this is that you will have to wait a good long while - at least another 10 books, if not more - before the last epic battle. The upside is that by the time we get there, your entire perspective on that battle and the combatants will have changed, if you can hang on that long. And the process of getting there will be, I think you'll find, a fascinating study on the development of Minalan as a character.
Enchanter goes places that few, if any, epic fantasy novels have gone before. We get inside Min's head in a way that we never do with Aragorn or Gandalf or even Harry.
That's not to say that it's overly bloody and exciting, and some of my more action-oriented readers will likely find themselves bored. I understand up front that I'm going to be criticized and even lose a few readers over this.
But I found the exploration worthwhile, and that's the direction I plan on going. If you're looking for an endless body count, you have at least two more books to wait on before we get there. Indeed, much of the major plot points in Enchanter happen to other people off-stage, adding to Min's level of frustration. It may well add to your own. There is a WHOLE lot of world-building in this book; in a way, it's a direct sequel to Magelord. There is war and battle, but that's not the focus.
Beyond the plotting and the psychology, this book was difficult in another way: I had to contrive an entire magical terminology for the process, technical discussion and culture of Enchantment. That might sound like a fairly easy thing, but I don't do things like that lightly. The result of my research efforts will be included with the book, a glossary entitled "Minalan's Thaumaturgic Orismology of Enchantment", more than 12 pages long. There are a LOT of arcane and re-purposed words in this collection, which might lead to some confusion without the glossary. I look forward to seeing how it is received.
In any case, you've been patient long enough. Here's the Blurb. I'll be posting a few more items of interest as we get closer to publication, trying not to get too spoiler-y with it, but y'all deserve to know what's going to be in Book 7 of the Spellmonger Series:
BONUS: One of the maps from the book!

Minalan The Moody
Meanwhile, back at the castle . . . Minalan the Spellmonger faces the boredom of house arrest after being confined to his lands by Prince Tavard for his defiance with the Wilderlands refugees. The Alka Alon have returned to their seclusion, dealing with their own crisis, the Dead God is being quiet within the Umbra, and Min’s plans toward re-establishing a functional Duchy of Alshar are progressing.
Min sees his punishment as a unique opportunity to indulge in thaumaturgical research. When the Sevendor Magic Fair brings a tide of enchanters eager for snowstone, irionite, and opportunity to his door (as well as the newly-formed Arcane Knights of Nablus, the successors of the Censorate in Merwyn), Minalan uses his wealth and position to invite them to stay on in Sevendor over the winter and focus on the developing art of Enchantment.
He forms the first Bouleuterion, a conclave of enchanters dedicated to producing and researching the creation of magical items, since the fall of the Magocracy. Such notable enchanters as Lanse of Bune, Taren, and Masters Andalnam and Cormoran arrive to help Minalan and his staff of experts push the frontiers of magical science as far as he can. Even Lorcus, Tyndal and Rondal help out. His secret mission is, of course, to fathom the complexities of the secret Snowflake of Sevendor, the enigmatic pseudo-molopor created from Minalan’s fevered subconscious . . . but not before they improve the lot of the peasantry by creating a wealth of labor-saving (and potentially socially revolutionary) devices.
But enchanters and former Censors are not the only ones to arrive at the fair: Baron and Baroness Greenflower, Magelords Dunselen and Isily, come to Sevendor as well . . . and the results are explosive. Before they depart Minalan’s entire life is thrown into doubt. Especially when a new divinity appears to make him an offer the Spellmonger just can’t refuse.
As Minalan works through his psychological issues by obsessively focusing on his craft, he must also nimbly maneuver his way around an inevitable war between Sendaria and Sashtalia, protect his vulnerable domains, deftly negotiate his course through the tangle of feudal law and obligation in the Bontal Vales, and contend with his troubled marriage.
His frustration, guilt, and doubt are soon revealed to be authored by a secret plot against him. The return of an old enemy and the revelation of new foes challenges his position as head of the Arcane Orders and puts his entire family in jeopardy. Could it be that Is Minalan’s new eleven-year-old apprentice, Ruderal, the only one capable of seeing through the deceptions in time to save them all even as he struggles with his own guilt about his role in releasing Korbal the undead Demon God from his tomb? Or will their fates lie on the whims of a former lover who has ambitions of her own for Minalan?
It’s hard for the Spellmonger to be forced to stay at home and quietly tend to his own business. But then Minalan never let such things impede his plans before . . . why would he now? With the Snowflake of Sevendor, a mighty cadre of powerful magi, some inspired vassals and the assistance of a few friendly gods, Minalan realizes that the only real way out of his personal and political mess may lie with an ancient intelligence of a long-extinct race . . . and his ability to become a master Enchanter!

ReplyDeletechecking every few hours for the final release of Enchanter ^^
ReplyDeleteI was surprised with the depth of your series starting in book 2 (expected action nonestop) and with at least 10 more books on the way, i think !AWESOME!
some books wont rock my world but a few letdowns are litte to pay for this interesting read!
(sorry for my bad english, working on it)
Web serials are the only other stories that are so sprawling. Epics have a charm of their own, yet so rarely touch on the true depths of consequence. This is as much the story of Min and the changes he brings as it is the war with The DeadHead. It is something special. Magelord was my favorite so far, and I'm really looking forward to Enchanter. Bring it on Terry.
ReplyDeleteMap!!! Thanks Terry! :D
ReplyDelete1. Sashtali Confederation? This is interesting information, suggesting many things.. I remember from previous books only simple name for that domain - Sashtali. Very nice and detail map. Maybe some add bit legend?
2. Dunseln and Isily are baron and baroness? Oh My Gods!
3. Old enemy? Who???
1. Since they were going to war, I figured it was important to elaborate the nature of the opposition. The gray areas are ecclesiastic domains, the "blank" areas are owned by the Duke, the King, or the Count of Lensely, or are independent.
Delete2. Yep.
3. Wouldn't YOU like to know! MWAHAHAHAHA!
This comment has been removed by the author.
Delete1. Amel Wood is only sevendori domain in Sasthali? West from Sevendor is many very small domains. This domains become Golden Wall of Sevendor? Count of Lensely? What? Who is that count? I think that only Lensely in Bontal Vale is baron of Sendaria?
Delete2. I hope for very short reign that baron...
3. PLEASE?
the count of lensley???
DeleteI thought in magelord you said that Baron Arathaniel had "the last solvent part of a dynasty", said dynasty being the local branch of the lensly family
off the top of my head, Minalan only has a few "old" enemies. Not exactly sure which one of them it is, and I have no idea which ones have the capability to "plot" against him, so I'll just list them.
1: Garkesku (just throwing it out there. We haven't seen him in a while, but he's definitely an old enemy)
2: Rardine: she doesn't exactly fit the bill of an old enemy, but I could definitely see her plotting against min... the arrogant little bitch.
3: No idea how this would work, but someone who connects the mad mage of Farise to the dead god, and has a past with min
4: Gimbal, Ambassador to the rebel Alshari counts. Again. Old enemy, but not likely to be the one in question.
5: The family of the alka alon alya killed during The Spellmonger's Honeymoon
Also, While I appreciate that Min's other troubles have him operating below maximum capacity, nothing talked about in High Mage or JourneyMage indicated that Sevendor would even participate in the Sendaria vs Sashtalia conflict, and given its relative power and that of its lord, I don't think said conflict would pose much of a threat to sevendor anyway.
Maybe threat not to whole Sevendor, but to border villages? For peasant killed in border raid is not essential that later Min destroy Lord of Sashtali.
DeleteOh about the map?
DeleteWhich ones are the domains in sashtalia that Sevendor was given by the crown when he became a baron?
and Which one is the one controlled by the estasi knights?
From my faulty memory - one is Amel Wood. Second one was in Fleria (Raard give this domains with Baron of Sevondor title. Later Raard give another one domain - I don't remember wher. Estasi domain is on northwestern border of Sevendor.
Delete@Adept: Arathanial is the last Lensely BARON of the old dynasty around, but the family has actually maintained the nominal title to the County and the traditional headship of the River Lords League that is, essentially, an assembly of the peerage of that county. The current Count of Lensely is, indeed, a distant cousin of Arathanial, but the two branches of the family have very different political goals. Arathanial sees the return of Lensely power to be a function of lands ruled, while the Count, his cousin, sees it more of a matter if court influence and political position.
DeleteI presumed t the green domain west of sevendor is the domain held by the Estasi Knights since it's right at the edge of the 'snowball'.
Delete@Aaron: Outstanding deductive work. But you may have missed a few enemies along the way.
DeleteThe fact is, Min goes out of his way to keep from getting involved in the Sashtali-Sendaria conflict . . . so of course he becomes instrumental in its conclusion. There are threats and then there are threats: Minalan is acting as a feudal magnate, here, playing a very delicate game between two very strong powers.
@George: Yes, that's Taragwen, the domain owned by the Estasi Order of Knights Magi.
DeleteAnd "snowball" . . . I love it! Might have to use that . . .
ok Im totally spitballing here
Delete1: when I said rardine, I meant the entire "family" the queen included
2: Those pissant wilderlords that got arrested and branded as rebels for refusing to host the kasari in journeymage
3: Buckler (mask to, but I'm assuming she did not survive her "punishment" for allowing minalan to humiliate her.
4: Ganulan, although he's hardly what I'd call intelligent enough to plot against a regional power like Min
5: Any of the named censors besides landrik and Hartarian that minalan humiliated.
I'm out of names.
Oh and also, any old enemies that I have not named because they were presumed dead but actually weren't.
DeleteJust putting it out there
Thanks Terry for explanation on Count of Lensely topic. Supplementary question. I am correct assumed that Count of Lensely is from branch antagonist to Sendaria line?
DeleteAlso, What role did Min play in the releasing of Korbal?? he was released during the events of Journey mage, while Min was off playing scoutmaster
ReplyDeleteAlso, when are we going to get the short story of what happened to rondal and tyndal when they went to get......
....
....
....
(gasp)
okokokok I'm done laughing
smokey the bear?
Role Runedal - a new apprentice of Min.
DeleteWell yes. I understand that that is the effect of the story on the larger narrative, but journeymage suggested that Rondal and Tyndal had a MAJOR character development moment on that journey which hasn't been revealed yet.
DeleteI want to hear more about the continuation of their feud with that slimy rat mage from knight magi.
I want to read about their encounter with the crew of rats trying to awaken Korbal the Necromage.
@Aaron: That short will hopefully be done by the end of summer. I needed to get this out of the way, first. I'll probably finish writing it in conjunction with Hawklady (it's only about 50,000 words or so). But yes, that WILL be arriving soon, and will fill in some very important blanks.
Delete@Aaron: That's going to be the bulk of the plot of Shadowmage, forthcoming at the end of this year. But you'll see the first story in that, dealing with them meeting Ruderal for the first time, as was related in Journeymage, before the end of the summer. I hope.
DeleteI'm dying with anticipation...
ReplyDeleteDo we have a target day of the week for release? I ask because searching amazon several times a day is growing irritating.
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know when it's imminent.
DeleteThanks. You are a diamond, mate.
DeleteI got the shakes waiting for the next Spellmonger fix.
ReplyDeleteThe sharks are circling Terry....ahaha

ReplyDeleteSomethings that have been bugging me about High Mage.
ReplyDelete1: why does min still consider dragons to be an insurmountable threat? All he has to do to kill one is pepper it with snowstone and then hit it with enough warmagic to level wilderhall. that shouldn't be a problem for the arcane orders.
2: after the freezing of the river, why did they spend any time at all following the army up the poros. Why not just focus all effort on disrupting the freezing spell ASAP? As soon as the spell is broken, the army will drown and the waterfalls will unfreeze, allowing the rainbows full of defensive magic to come back making the city virtually unassailable again?
@Aaron for 2, I think they did focus on the unfreezing part, right? If memory serves right, I recall that as Penny and the rest working the unfreezing part while the rest tried to figure out what was the army doing and how they help in case the unfreezing took longer.
DeleteOr at least that is how I explained it myself :).
Aaron,
DeleteI think there's other factors in play (other than dramatic license.) Note that a dragon survived a direct lightning strike. As far as I can see - barring blue magic - energy still matters. A dragon survived a direct lightning strike that took multiple mages (and the right weather conditions) to create. War mages can do a lot of destruction, but can they generate the equivalent in destructive energies of a lightning bolt at a close enough range to not get splattered themselves. I'm also wondering if dragons mitigate the effect of snowstone as well. If I'm remembering the correct information from various places, the magic reducing effects of not just snowstone but the Portal Gem on min's staff should be reducing resistance in a 2 km / mile (forgetting what the measurement was) area. While I believe the effect isn't supposed be a complete and immediate drop but a decrease over time, that alone should have been enough to get hooks into the dragon by the Gates of the Alkan City.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Delete1. Maybe first dragon is hard, second one difficult, each next more effortless. Unless that is dragoness... ;) Seriously - enough warmagic in vicinity is key problem. I suppose that few dozen warmage in one spot is rare occurrence. In High Mage dragons were almost easy opponents. But indeed in future lonely dragon should be tractable. And what with squadron of dragons? In my opinion solution should be anti-dragon artillery with snowstone shell. As propellent in place of gunpowder - maybe magical compressed air or some kind of alchemy potion/powder. Heavy shell with decent speed and E=mc2 equal dragon very bad day. :)
DeleteLets keep in mind that we haven't seen a fully mature dragon as of yet. Who knows how powerful they will be. If we follows the standard dragon rules old=stronger.
DeleteI'm not really sure where he's going with that particular convention.
DeleteAt timberwatch, Koucey said that the dragon Horka blinded was old and feeble.
But at Cambrian the Alka said that dragon was young and stupid.
The story and characters of this world are some of the best I've ever read. But the lore seems to flip flop from book to book. Still, can't wait for the next one
Yeah, I wondered about that after your comment and I went, looked it up and I see this - "he is but the eldest of his kind". Also later on (sorry, no reference), it was said that Sherul acquired eggs or young dragons and is trying to control them. So maybe that was the oldest dragon among those that Shreul had. The statement is vague enough to mean that :).
DeleteChaitu...I thought that at timberwatch that was the older of the first batch that the dead god acquired. I assumed it implied that all the dragons were really young.
DeleteLater in magelord it said that the dragon was stupid because it was young...and this one was alot larger than the one described at timberwatch
Thats my two cents worth.
Dragons , I think Terry said in the books, are intelligent as they grow older , & talk. THe Aronin"s daughter is with one, who knows if she's teaching it ,& maybe it can talk
Delete@ Jeremy, that is exactly what I was trying to express since it was not explicitly stated. It was not made obvious - we had to infer that is what I was trying to get across. Or at least based on what I looked up in the book after Aaron's comments.
DeleteTerry, are the Tal Alon based upon, or inspired by the Minions from despicable me?! If they are at all, I feel some interesting fan art of Olmeg coming up...!
ReplyDeletetal alon were explicitly stated to be furry.
DeleteIf you want fan art ideas, how bout this.
I always pictured the original form alka alons to look like Koroks from legend of zelda the wind waker.
Mysterious old enemy of Min must be very good concealed - maybe with changed body (with Shadowmagic?). But probably Ruderal eneagramatic true vision may revealing that.
ReplyDeleteKoucey, maybe???
DeleteMaybe it is the United Federation of Husbands to Millers Daughters.(UFHMD) They are finally coming to get revenge on the fact that they are always second fiddle to the dashing Warmage that passed through that one time. . .
DeleteMaybe FAD - Female Acquisitors of Dowry? ;)
DeleteBlogspot doesn't have a like button or upvote or anything like that, so this is how I have decided to go about announcing that @SirLoki's comment made my whole day!
Deletebravo sir!
BTW, in the excitement of all this, I completely forgot about the glossary - I cant wait to read it!!
ReplyDeleteTen more books? I hope I live long enough to read them all! Just kidding, you get them out quick. Some guys could take fifty years to release ten. You keep up the good work and I'll happily make my contribution to your mortgage every time you release one. I don't mind the extra buck for the scouts now and then either. My den could have used a few extra bucks back in the day.

ReplyDeleteAnd what is `ancient intelligence of a long-extinct race`? Maybe Min will have contact with eneagram personality within the Grain of Pors?

DeleteTerry is Ridgemarch on the ocean. If Sevendor can get some of the ocean territory it will open up many prospects.
ReplyDeleteHe who rules the ocean rules the world
Not as far as we know. Min's lands are quite aways from the ocean. It's hard to say without a scale on the map but what we are seeing here probably doesn't cover more than 50 miles.
DeleteSo light blue should either be another barony we haven't heard from before or signify lands directly held by the crown, though I suspect that's what light grey is for.
@ Terry
The dark grey of the Uwarris interior, does that mean those lands aren't settled by humans or settled so sparely that they don't warrant any human domains?
I overlooked that Terry had already revealed light grey to mean land held by one of the various churches
DeleteEhem. Use `snowball` as scale. In Magelord radius of snowstone effect equal 2 miles (i.e. diameter 4 miles). Snowball fit in total breadth map circa 14 times and in lenght circa 11 times. Ergo map have size: (14x4)x(11x4) = 56x44.
DeleteP.s. I am walking on a walls because all that awaiting for Enchanter.
Thanks for pointing that out. Seems I wasn't too far off with my estimate. But man this map really illustrates why feudalism sucks. You can't throw a stone without breaking laws in three different fiefs. Every little anthill is its own domain with its own tolls and rules and overlord. No wonder nothing ever got done in the medieval times.
DeleteI can't wait to see what Min will do to do away with those practices. He's bound to pick up a number of new small domains during the upcoming war and at some point he's bound to get fed up with this mess.
I. Min enemy known by us - readers (to sum up enemies of Min calculated by Aaron Schwartz and Steve Allen):
ReplyDelete- The Family:
a) Grendine - maybe principal enemy but not in direct way,
b) Rardine - in prospect for husband,
c) Taavard - hostile but in apparent feudal and political way,
d) Isily - is obvious but not mysterious and rather Sword of Damocles for Min, than enemy;
- Agents of Dead God (maybe after body change):
a) Koucey - medium probability in the range of feudal and political intrigue,
b) Garkesku - medium probability in the range of arcane intrigue,
c) Others human servants of Sharuel (Buckler, Mask...) - minor likelihood considering relative novelty theirs hostility and moderate power;
- Regional Enemies:
a) Lord of Sasthalia - not old enemy,
b) Baron Vulric (?) of East Fleria - not old enemy,
c) Ganulan - probably in rebellious region of Alshar and not big fish;
- Former Censorate - obvious hostiles, but noting particular;
- Brotherhood of Rats - maybe versus new Min apprentice, but small probability of independent action and rather not old enemy (maybe new enemy);
- Dunseln and conservative faction of Arcane Orders - this is rather awkward problem not real enemy;
- Shadowed faction of Alka Alon (?) - maybe, but Min not remember true honeymoon. I think that will be new enemy;
- Khorbal - probably Min future and longtime Arch-enemy but not now;
- Others - generally too small fishes for independent action;
II. Min old enemy unknown by us:
- Enemy from academic time - bullies???;
- Enemy from Farisian Campaign - Farisians? Rival in duchies army?
- Enemy from warmagic career - ?
III. Min new and not know enemy:
- Count of Lensly? - political and feudal enemy;
- Some Merwyni and Vore factions - political, anti-crown and anti-magic enemy;
- Anti-magic feudal lords from Kingdom - ?;
- Other Alka Factions - ?;
- Some clergy of others Gods - ?;
- Some anti-magical and anti-modernization people - ?
- Some other races of Calidore?
- Forsaken?
In my opinion:
1. Official enemy/problem through Enchanter will be Dunseln (problem) and former Censorate (arcane enemy). Also partially Family - political/feudal/moral intrigue with participation of Isily plus maybe Sasthalia complicity.
2. In addition Brotherhood of Rats attack Ruderal.
3. Mysterious old enemy probably is unknown person from Min past.
4. New enemy will be agents Shadowed Faction of Alka Alon.
5. Agents Dead God will be assail other characters - not direct Min.
I am thinking Ganulan...It's about time the snot shows up again.
DeleteThe Censorate from Merwin ??? Those checkered cloaked blokes
DeleteI am thinking someone from the farise campaign
ReplyDeleteThat is what I am leaning towards too. Cant wait to find out though :)
DeleteAre there any updates yet on the release date?
ReplyDeleteThe blue was chosen at random - no ocean. I'd make it a darker blue, anyway. Those lands are held by other nobles, not directly involved in the war.
ReplyDeleteThanks for clearing that up.
DeleteI have question on topic relative disproportion in size between different domains. Sashtali proper domain look as if is several times bigger than proper Sevendor and Sashtali Confederation likewise in relation to Greater Sevendor. Similiar Trestendor apear too big. A bit of clarification?
ReplyDeleteI don't think we are seeing much more than the old Sevendor on that map. Don't forget that Min's expansions so far were to the east, because that's where West Fleria was. So most of Greater Sevendor should be to the east. Also as I recall during the war against West Fleria Min didn't pick up nearly as much land as Sendaria or Trestendor because Min didn't want it.
DeleteTrue. Each map is fantastic, but in my opinion the same areas on various maps in series are slightly off scale and not entirely coherent. I hope that Author by the way re-writing standardize all maps. But now this is third-rate problem. I want Enchanter! :)
DeleteTotally different topic but what should we call the wiki page/site I may look to starting it this week and with the help of everyone here should be able to start getting the it up and running with the information from the book and the extra terry has promised ;)
ReplyDeletewhat wiki/page site? The spellmonger series doesn't have a wiki. (not that I'm against that.)
DeleteOn a side note, I have been editing and adding to the TV tropes page for the spellmonger series for a while now. I would love help with that
The Grain of Pors? That little rock that stores all those enneagrams?
Deleteohhhh, I thought you were asking for help with a wiki not a name.
DeleteThe grain of pors is a bit to long, but I see what you are going for and it makes sense. reminds me of how brandon sanderson's wiki is called the coppermind, or the doctor who wiki is the TARDIS datacore.
But "The Grain of Pors" is a bit long, and it doesnt really fit
I know your following this thread terry!
All we would need for this is the Narasi translation for whatever the Alka called the load of ghost rock under Anthatiel/ have min encounter some kind of Hapaxalite based "font of knowledge" artifact, and we would have the perfect wiki title
alternatively, if "spellmongers wiki" or some other title variation name isn't good enough, we could go with the "Callidore wiki"
Spellmonger Series.
Delete"The downside of this is that you will have to wait a good long while - at least another 10 books, if not more - before the last epic battle."
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how happy this makes me.
Amen.
DeleteI eagerly look forward to Enchanter!!!! I really enjoy world building book, especially when they're done well, such as terry's.
ReplyDeletePublish Please...I'm begging!
ReplyDeletefingers crossed today may be the day.....
DeleteI say the more books the better. I've enjoyed them all. Hopefully we'll get a release today.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if at a certain point, since Min and the other mages who live in Sevendor eat food grown in snowsoil, that they will incorporate snowstone into their physical makeup? You are what you eat so to speak.
ReplyDeleteinteresting theory...
Deleteadd to that my speculation that the same effect will increase the number and power of magi born in sevendor.
Remember back in spellmonger when Min talked about how irionite particles ended up in mountain streams that were then drunk by mothers and children which created strong future mages? the same thing could happen with snowstone
they are or so i presume: they are already watching out for more talents (and mages) in the new generation (as was said in the former books)
Deletealso, the Dragonslayer and other new talents could have been getting the talents from irionite and didnt develop it cause they were to old (puberty seems to be a trigger) and then it activated later in the proximity to snowstone
I hope the DragonSlayer has some development this book. Sir Cei is my second favorite character after Min.
ReplyDeletei would LOVE for him to be Duin or some other god of war (his talents seems wellsuited for the job)
DeleteI think that apotheosis of Dragon Slayer is very deux ex machina sort event. I rather will see Sire Cei singlehand destroy castle wall somewhere in Sasthali by one hit his mighty warhammer... ;)
Deletesounds like ninefinger Logan (by Joe Abercrombie): Well i got this lifetreatening injurie while disassembling a palisade with my bare hands...
Deleteseriously, that level of annihilation requires a twohanded swing.

ReplyDeleteI have been reading the series for a while and I would like to bring up some points that others may not have.
ReplyDelete1. During their honeymoon Min and Alay had quite an adventure and they should be getting the noted they left themselves in this book which would make for some interesting plot development.
2. During the siege in Spellmonger Min is forced to kill one or Gastiks apprentices who has gone out berserk. In doing so he triggers an explosion when the apprentices primary piece of magic amber is destroyed. The blast reduces the amber to dust and releases a tremendous amount of energy. After being subjected to that all the occupents spend at least the rest of the night breathing in the dust. With what I know about explosions from being in the military and what I know about distributor from living in the desert I would think it highly likely that Min and the boys have at least traces of ironit in their bodies. Factor in all the other things that they have been exposed to and I would be shocked if there where not some very interesting things going on at the cellular or even the genetic level.
well, Jorneymage told us he is moving up the ladder so hes gonna be special ^^
DeleteIn the honeymoon story the Alon mentioned that they found the residue in both Min and Alya's lungs and they made it sound very portentous so I am sure something will come of it eventually!
DeleteI just read honeymoon again. I get the feeling that some modifications were going to be done on min and alya before they were interrupted. Then they coincidentally had to forgot their memories. Who know what was done to them in this period of time.
DeleteI have theory than Author waiting with publishing for one hundred commentaries... ;)
ReplyDeleteThis has gotten quite entertaining, as I stitch the book together. Have the first 15 chapters in the can, working on the rest now. I'm workin', people, I'm workin' . . .
DeleteIt's never fast enough. The beast needs feeding, and it always hungers for more.
DeleteThe day of release won't even be over before you have someone asking for the next one. Such is the author's lot.

ReplyDeleteThe Alka Anon's enshadowed is a good possibility. In the Spellmonger's Honeymoon one of the enshadowed interferred and tried to eliminate Ithalia and her grandmother and including Min, Alya and the baby. He also reveiled that the enshadowed were working with Sherul. In High Mage it was reveiled that the enshadowed is interested in snowstone and how it was made. Even also asked to buy Minalyan. Just a thought on the "old enemy".
ReplyDeletewell, more spoilers would be pritty hard for that short message ^^
DeleteThe enshadowed are a guaranteed threat however at this stage I'm not sure Min is quite ready to tangle with Alka Alan lords. I personally am wondering about that little pest Garky the barley competent give even an idiot enough power and he can be a threat.
DeleteHow about an other map from the book to keep us sane :) it would at least start a new place to comment as this one is getting way too long now lol
ReplyDeleteHere, here, or maybe first couple of chapters!
DeleteMap but no chapter. I don't want to start reading and not keep reading right through. I have a massive session planned. 6-8 hours non stop.
DeleteYes Terry I am Insane.
You think that's insane? My transmission just tanked out on a busy highway. My 11 year old and I pushed it off the road and had to wait an hour and a half for a tow truck.
DeleteGot two chapters corrected while I waited.
That is an impressive effort.
DeleteTo bad about your vehicle through...
To bad for your auto, but... I am very egoistic. Hour and half for two chapter is very good information from my perspective. Maybe no vehicle equal half day for rest of book? ;) Seriously - I think that incident will be some kind of adventure for your boy. I remember that each uncommon event is on this stage life interesting.

ReplyDeleteBeats working for a living.
DeleteI just keep looking at the site hit ticker getting higher and higher and know that, like myself, everyone is constantly hitting refresh!
ReplyDeleteI think that means first day sales should help fix that transmission! ;)
